Korean Film and Two Koreas |

This public forum will provide a unique opportunity for the general
American audience to learn how the Korean film community has contributed
to the democratization of Korea by offering alternative perspectives
on important ideological issues. Panelists will discuss ways in
which Korean film has contributed to the historical imagination
of the two Koreas and to Koreans¡¯ dream for a reunified country.
This forum will reflect a variety of perspectives, including that
of a leader of the Korean film industry, a recognized film director,
and distinguished film scholars.

The past few years have seen growing connections between Korean and
American film production, with a number of Korean film artists developing
new production and distribution deals with Hollywood and elsewhere.
This open talk will discuss the possibilities and implications of
these relationships by drawing on the experiences of several outstanding
international film artists.

Korean films have emerged as a unique and influential player in international
cinema. Current Korean cinema has combined Hollywood and more traditionally
Asian aesthetics in ways that make it well suited for the global film
market. This academic seminar will discuss the political, cultural,
social, and economic implications of these recent developments for
both Korea and international cultural sectors.

This forum discussion will bring together US journalists, filmmakers
and Korean American community members to discuss the past and present
images of Korea, including North Korea, presented in the US Media.
Through dialogue and discussion, this forum, will discuss the prominent
images of Korea and Koreans and their impact on the Korean American
community.
